A 55-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery after he carjacked a woman as she was loading her two children into her car, Arvada police said Wednesday.

Clifton William White was arrested Tuesday after police say he stole a black Subaru in the 5100 block of Kipling Street as a woman was putting her kids into the car.

Witnesses told police that White claimed someone was chasing him and was going to kill him as he stole the car, and the woman tried to fight him off and started screaming for help as she tried to get her 3-year-old child out of the car.

Her 1-year-old was also there but was not in the car at the time, police spokesperson Dave Snelling said.

The woman managed to get her toddler out of the car before White drove away, and police later found the Subaru near Second and Ford streets in Golden. White was arrested near Colorado 58 and U.S. 6 as he was trying to flag down other cars.

The woman and 3-year-old had minor injuries from the encounter.
