Denver International Airport flights are grounded until at least 5:30 p.m. because of high winds, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Hundreds of flights were already delayed before the ground stop was issued at 4 p.m. because of wind, federal officials said.

Flights are running an average of 49 minutes late because of a ground delay for wind that’s expected to last until 9 p.m.

There were 432 flight delays and six canceled flights at the Denver airport as of 4:20 p.m., according to flight tracking website FlightAware. 

Southwest reported the most delays at 187, followed by United with 112 delays.
